Viewing eBooks
It's much easier to read the books if you set a default zoom level in Acrobat for the time that you're reading a book. If you don't, you may end up enlarging every page so that you can see the text clearly, every time you download a new page.
In the Acrobat program (not just the mini-Acrobat that opens inside a browser) it's in the Edit > Preferences menu, under Page Display. In the Magnification box at the bottom, change the default zoom to 200%, or whatever is comfortable. Then each page should download and display at your preferred size.
Checkouts
It is no longer necessary to check out eBooks. EBooks must be read online, and are available only to you as long as you remain active (e.g. turning pages) in the eBook reader. After 15 minutes of inactivity, or if you close the eBook window, the title is made available to others.
You can have an unlimited number of titles open in the online reader at any given time.
Printing and Copying eBooks
From NetLibrary's Help section:
You are allowed to print one page at a time using your Web browser's print function or the print function on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar. Printing or copying the entire eContent item violates copyright laws and precautions are taken to protect those copyright laws. If a suspicious usage pattern indicates excessive printing or copying, the activity is logged and you are sent a copyright warning message.
EBook Titles
Sparks Notes
Several Sparks notes are available in the eBook format. This means that you can view the Sparks notes book online as an eBook. You don't have to wonder if your branch has a hard copy of the book. This is a good alternative when all copies are checked out.
Nolo titles
Helpful hint: SDCL has over 80 Nolo legal titles in eBook format.
